Facts about Panama
The word “Panama” which means “abundance of butterflies and fish” is nothing short of its name. Most people have heard of Panama because of the famous canal, but this country is in fact a spectacular place to live.
Panama has everything, unbelievable climate, modern shopping centers, clear waters, white sand beaches, rivers, lakes, jungles, rainforest, mountains, unique culture and cuisine and one of a kind investment opportunities.
Panama sets itself aside from other countries such as Mexico and Costa Rica, with its near perfect weather, low cost of living, stable government, low crime rate; clean air, as well as modern infrastructure. Panama is advanced in telephone, satellite and cable services along with top of the line medical care, up to date hospitals in the metropolitan areas, and low costs for prescription drugs.
The Local People
The people in this country are proud, fun loving, easy going and always welcoming. Even though Spanish is the official language spoken there, English is taught in the education system and many people in the service industry also speak English.
Climate
There is not much room to improve when it comes to the weather in Panama. Its enjoyable tropical climate averages about 27 C (80 F) and only varies slightly, by a few degrees in the different seasons. Up in the altitude of the mountains the temperature is slightly milder with the average temperature being 19 C (66 F).
Essentially Panama has only 2 seasons- wet and dry. The dry season which is considered summer in Panama runs from December through April, while the rainy season runs May through till November and is considered winter.
Our properties are all in what is called the “Dry Arc” of Panama. This area receives much less rain in the rainy season than the rest of Panama. It may rain for an hour three times a week and then the sun comes out. This area runs from Punta Chame to Rio Hato on the Pacific Coast
Unlike Panama’s neighbors, Panama does not experience any natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes.
Panama’s Geography
Panama is a country that offers plenty of opportunity to enjoy nature and to relax while watching a breathtaking sunset. This country is a paradise for people who love water and exotic wildlife. Panama’s ratio of coastline to land area is greater than any Latin American country. It’s beautiful beaches, islands and waterways offer a large variety of exciting and safe opportunities for outdoor recreation including, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing and windsurfing, sea kayaking, river rafting and deep sea fishing.
Panama has 14 national parks, over a dozen forest reserves, 10 wildlife refuges, hundreds of islands and miles of protected coral reefs. About 29% of Panama’s land is protected.
